ANGELS AT THE WHEEL

Do you ever feel like you have angels looking out for you???  Seriously, I believe in angels and I am certain that they are watching over my son. Recently, Raa (my son) had stopped by our house to pay us a visit, but we were not home, so he got on the computer to kill time until we got back. The door bell rang…it was one of our neighbors from two houses down. He asked Raa if he had a black truck, Raa responded “yes” while looking at our driveway and realizing his truck was not parked where he had left it (he forgot to pull the hand brake up). Raa literally feels his heart stop beating L Our neighbor proceeds to tell Raa that while he was standing outside his house smoking a cigarette, all of a sudden, he sees a the truck, slowly rolling down our driveway (our house stands on top of a slight hill in a cul de sac in our subdivision). The truck is rolling down backwards, makes 180 degree turn, and hits our neighbor’s  cable box, which slows the truck down, runs over his water hose and then hits the side of his (brick) house. At this point Raa starts thinking he is going to have to pay for this man’s house and that his life is in ruins....that is until my neighbor starts laughing at him. He says “son, calm down, everything is ok” no major damage to the house, only to the water hose. Your truck did leave me without cable though. Needless to say, Raa apologized profusely. My son took pictures and when he showed  them to me….. my jaw dropped to the floor…literally…J
I told Raa, there are angels looking out for him, he responded, “I know Mom… if they only knew how to drive J
Hope you enjoy my story!!!

CLEANING THE FRIDGE PAYS OFF !!! (my genie in a bottle story)

This is how my idea of my “GENIE IN A BOTTLE” Moroccan style bottles was born:
Once upon a time, while cleaning my fridge, I realized there were at least ten (almost) empty bottles. I knew I needed  to clean the fridge, (my poor fridge was screaming for help) but was not too excited about doing it. I began to get everything out;  BBQ sauce, steak sauce, mustard bottles, spaghetti sauce, soy sauce etc etc etc. As I was throwing then into the garbage, I was thinking that some of them had a really nice shape. Needless to say; I dug them out and washed them. What can I do with them??  I thought …huhhhhh
I literally started doing cart wheels in my brain!!! (emphasis in literally)... Wow… why didn’t I think of “this” before? …Anyway, after contemplating infinite possibilities, I decided to paint the bottles. I did not want to just paint  them like so many other glass painting projects I have seen (that really are not that  “interesting”) I wanted my bottles to be whimsical and different, something that you don’t see everywhere, something that will grab your attention and make you go….  oooh, aaaah ..WOW THESE BOTTLES ARE UNIQUE!!! …Well the idea was born. I was going to paint them MOROCCAN STYLE and fill some of them with my homemade soy candle mix.
My bottles turned out adorable!! some are great as liquid soap dispenser in your guest bathroom, child's room decor, flower base, candle holders, or as decor for a Moroccan style date night with your hubby (like we had) ...infinite possibilities for my Moroccan bottles!!
At the end of the day, I felt like I have had a very productive day….that is until I remembered that I never finish cleaning the fridge J

Hope you like my GENIE IN A BOTTLE story :-)

FOR THE CANDLE LOVERS

Recycled baby food jar turned into an Morrocan style tea light candle holder. Painted with a technique that gives you a "stained glass" appearance. The flame reflects the colors through the glass creating a whimsy and cozy ambience. I have mine in my deck around my flowers :-)

Flowers from my garden

Today is Wednesday and I was feeling a bit tired still after waking up around 3pm (I work at the hospital in town). Looked out my window and I could not believe what I saw..... Crows in my water fountain.....bathing and drinking water, I think these guys need it a brake to cool off for a few minutes. Not sure why they picked my garden, when there are so many in my sub-division. I must admit, I am a bit worry that their arrival will scare my other little birds that usually hang out in my garden. Sure hope this is not the case, but I guess will see in the next few days. Anyway, I was not able to take a pic of the crows, but I was able to pick a few flowers from my garden to bring them inside and they smell heavenly!!!!
God is so perfect in his creation!!!
here are some pics of the flowers I picked from my garden. Queen Elizabeth roses, gardenias and blushing bride hydrangeas bouquet.

Fixing Sewing Machine

Just wanted to share with you guys about my sewing machine problems. I had several projects I need it to finish, but could not because my machine started to cause the thread to bunched up under the fabric. Well to make a long story short, the guy at the sewing repair shop wanted to charge me $99.00 dollars. Needless to say; I started working on it myself......and guess what???? I fixed it !!!!
Here is a pic of the problem...

Here is a pic of what it looks like after I fixed it!! I am sooo proud of myself.

If you need help with yours, you are welcome to contact me and I can share with you how I did it step by step.

Lima and London Palace

What a beautiful wedding yesterday!! that is William and kate's wedding. I think my favorite part was the "2 kisses". The background was the Buckingham Palace in London; what a beautiful place.....it reminded me of the Government Palace in Peru. I was struck by the similarity of these two whimsical places. Here are some pics of the Peruvian Palace in Lima.

I love Peru's Palace and gardens around it. It's beauty is enhanced by all the beautiful doves that parade around the Palace. Butterflies love to rest on the delicate and exotic flowers in the gardens, while people can help but to stop and admire the moment.

Every day, right at noon, they have what is called, the "exchange of guards" .....wow they really put on a show!! ...people gather around the front to enjoy a few minutes of music played by the orchestra before the exchange.

......how do they keep from missing a step ??... I wonder,...they are so in sync with each other ...it is an amazing view. The guards begin by marching towards each other, the current and the new rotation. The current rotation is carrying the flag, approaches the new rotation of guards and hand over the flag. I felt so lucky to have witnessed this moment :-)

This one is a pic of the Buckingham Palace in London. I think this will be one of my future stops!! :-)
Hope you enjoy the pics!!

Gardening made easy

After a long day or night at work (I work in the health care field), it is extremely rewarding to look forward to come back home and spend time with my family and garden. Gardening has been a lot easier ever since my hubby built me a potting bench. I absolutely love it !!!!  I love organization and this addition to my garden, provides it for me. I thank God for the simple things in life that make it so enjoyable.
Here is a pic of my potting bench in case you want to get and idea for your own potting bench. Mine is about 5 years old and by the way it looks, you can see "it has worked hard" for me.
Enjoy the pics, till next time

Handmade Hummingbird Feeder

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!!!
Unable to go back to sleep. It is very early in the morning so I thought I should get up and blog....
Yesterday was a rainy day here in Athens, Georgia;  today my petunias look soaked and wet, the squirrels are making a mess and the birds look a bit cold ( but that doesn't seem to affect their appetite) I think it is going to be another cloudy day,
I am missing my morning doves, have not seen them for a couple of days hummm....they usually come by in the mornings to eat and hang out. The birds eat so much bird food that we go through 1 -2 bags of bird seeds a week !! If we could just claim them in our tax return, it would be wonderful :-).
I am currently working on a new hummingbird feeder, it is almost done and will post pics later. Since is so wet outside and can not "play in the dirt", I should probably try to finish it and some of my indoor projects as well. So much to do and so little time !!!!! do you ever feel like we need more than 24 hrs in a day??? I know I do :-)
Ok gang, will come back a bit later with pics of the finish project
till then......
Monica

..........a few hours later...here is my latest creation. This hummingbird feeder turned out really cute and whimsy if I may say so myself :-)  I used lots of color beads to attract the little guys; although, they never have a problem finding it. Enjoy the pics!!!
